In 1998 (B.E. 2541), Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra, the patron of Thailand’s International Mathematics and Science Olympiad Program, became aware of the challenges facing science, mathematics, and computer education in Thai schools compared to international standards. This awareness stemmed from discussions with educators accompanying student teams to international competitions, as well as from the students representing Thailand and other stakeholders.
Recognizing that raising the overall scientific and mathematical proficiency of Thai students to meet global standards would be a long-term challenge, Her Royal Highness identified an immediate strategic approach—developing high-potential students first. She believed that an independent organization, operating with flexibility and free from bureaucratic constraints, could help the government achieve its goals more efficiently.
With her visionary leadership, Her Royal Highness graciously donated her personal funds to Professor Sakda Siripant, then President of the Science Society of Thailand under Royal Patronage, to establish the Promotion of Academic Olympiad and Development of Science Education Foundation (POSN). This foundation was created under her patronage to enhance science education standards in Thailand. She also honored POSN by serving as its Founding Chairperson, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to advancing science, mathematics, and education in Thailand.
Her tremendous generosity and foresight continue to leave a lasting impact on Thailand’s scientific and academic development.
