About
The “Asian Science Camp” Project was established in 2005 through the collaboration of Professor Yuan Tseh Lee, a Taiwanese Nobel Laureate in Chemistry (1986), and Professor Masatoshi Koshiba, a Japanese Nobel Laureate in Physics (2002). The project has the following objectives:
- To inspire creativity in youth with exceptional abilities in science and technology through interactive activities that encourage questioning and exchanging ideas with world-class scientists.
- To promote future collaboration among youth in the Asian region.
Activity Format
This program emphasizes close interaction between youth and Nobel Laureates as well as leading scientists worldwide. It encourages youth to actively engage in discussions, ask questions, and express their ideas. The activities are structured as follows:
- Plenary Sessions – Lectures by Nobel Laureates on interesting topics, allowing youth to ask questions and share their perspectives.
- Round Table Discussions – A panel discussion with 5-8 Nobel Laureates and leading scientists, addressing topics from the Plenary Sessions. Youth participants are encouraged to ask questions and exchange views.
- Parallel Sessions – Small group sessions (about 2-3 groups) where youth can choose to attend short lectures on research topics presented by leading scientists. These sessions provide ample opportunities for discussion and questions.
- Student to Master Dialogues – Small group discussions that allow youth to engage in closer, informal conversations with leading scientists based on topics from the Parallel Sessions.
- Evening Talks – Small group activities (7-8 groups) featuring short lectures on research by local scientists. Youth participants are encouraged to engage in lively discussions, ask questions, and share their thoughts, fostering enthusiasm in scientific inquiry.
- Poster Session – Participants form independent groups based on their interests and develop ideas from the lectures they have attended. They create and present posters based on their concepts, which are exhibited and judged by a panel of distinguished experts on the final day.
Competition Categories
The competition is divided into three categories:
- Creative Poster Competition – This competition evaluates the participants’ ability to synthesize knowledge gained throughout the camp and present creative ideas for future exploration.
- Question Asking Award – A prize awarded to students who ask the most insightful and well-thought-out questions during the lectures.
- Problem of the Day Award – A prize for students who provide the best and most accurate answers during the “Problem of the Day” sessions held for three days within the five-day camp. Participants must respond to the question within 10-15 minutes after seeing it.
Expected Benefits for Thailand from Participating in ASC
