POSN Foundation Scholarship

In the year 2000, Dr. Ruey J. Yu and Associate Professor Dr. Pichit Suwanprakor presented a donation of 830,197 THB to Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, Princess of Narathiwat, who was the Chairperson of the Foundation for the Promotion of Academic Olympiads and Development of Science Education (POSN). This donation was intended to provide scholarships for students with scientific potential but facing financial difficulties.

From the 2001 to 2010 academic years, the foundation awarded 28 scholarships as follows:

  • 24 scholarships for high school students, each worth 23,000 THB per year
  • 4 scholarships for undergraduate students, each worth 51,000 THB per year

A total of 756,000 THB was allocated for these scholarships, leaving a remaining fund of 74,197 THB.

In 2008, Mr. Sunthorn and Mrs. Araya Arunyanontchai donated 1,000,000 THB to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the new Chairperson of the POSN Foundation, to further support educational initiatives.

In 2011, the foundation merged the remaining 74,197 THB from Dr. Ruey J. Yu and Dr. Pichit Suwanprakor’s donation with the 1,000,000 THB donation from Mr. Sunthorn and Mrs. Araya Arunyanontchai, creating a total fund of 1,074,197 THB. This fund was formally established as the POSN Foundation Scholarship Fund.

The scholarship aims to support high school students from the POSN Academic Olympiad Centers who:

  • Pass POSN Camp 2
  • Achieve excellent academic performance
  • Demonstrate financial need

Each year, 5 to 10 scholarships are awarded, with the amount increased to 30,000 THB per student per year. Undergraduate scholarships were discontinued, as the government already provides student loan programs for higher education.

In 2020, the POSN Foundation Board approved an increase in scholarship amounts to 40,000 THB per student per year, effective from that year onward.
